Applying for a grant

Thinking of insulating your home or doing a retrofit but worried about costs? Good news — the Irish Government (through SEAI – Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland) offers generous grants to make it affordable. Read below for our easy, step-by-step guide!

Step 1: Check if You’re Eligible

Before you apply, take note of the following:

  • Insulation Grants  → Your home must have been built before 2011.

Step 2: Pick the Best Route for You

Option A: Individual Energy Upgrade Grants

  • Apply for single upgrades (attic insulation, cavity wall insulation, internal/external wall insulation).

  • You pay for the work upon completion, then SEAI refunds you after the job is done.

  • Example grant amounts:

    • Attic Insulation: €800–€1,500

    • Cavity Wall Insulation: €700–€1,700

Option C: Warmer Homes Scheme (Free for Eligible Homes)

  • Fully funded by SEAI for low-income households.

  • Covers insulation, draught-proofing, and sometimes heating upgrades.

  • Completely free of charge if you qualify.

Step 3: How to Apply (Individual Grants)

  1. Apply online with SEAI before starting any work.  Click here to apply. 

  2. Choose a registered SEAI contractor (Keating Insulation is registered – Registration Number 10015).

  3. Get the work done to SEAI standards.

  4. Have a BER Rating carried out on your home. Submit your grant paperwork to SEAI.

  5. Receive your grant payment straight to your bank account.

Step 4: Extra Support — Home Energy Upgrade Loan

Need extra funds beyond the grant? The Government also supports a low-interest Home Energy Upgrade Loan (from €5,000 up to €75,000, repayable over up to 10 years).
